Is it a good club for my 2016 DD? got an offer but still waiting on others

What else are you waiting on and what team was offered?

I hate that grass field they seem to use for all their games.

Decent club...if it is convenient to you, I wouldn't hesitate, especially if you like the coach?

It seems the 2013g team is strong, but the 2014g team had some issues in the past... not sure about 2015 or 2016.

SYC & Alexandria

Unless there is a compelling reason (e.g. location, friends, etc.), I would probably opt for one of the other two if offered. Longer term will likely be happier and have more options. If you go that route, would really try to get a sense of who the coach will be…at that club it can make a huge difference and a few you might want to pass on.

We had a terrible experience. Run quickly. No growth potential.

For what it is worth, my older boy scrimmaged against them and played them in the Cannon Cup back at the U9/U10 level. The bad was that they appeared to get blown out a lot (they were just good enough to get into higher level competition but then really paid for it). The good was the culture seemed really positive. The parents showed up to the tournaments with their windows written (“Go Gunston!”) and after big losses, they would still walk across the field to clap for their supporters.

If you want higher level soccer, I’d pick SYC of those three. But if you don’t care about that so much, I’d see if the culture would be the same for your daughter.

And again, my perspective is totally external - maybe it’s toxic and they just present well in public.

FWIW, they’re on my list of teams that we hated playing against because the parents and coach were so awful — mean-spirited, aggressive, cheering when one of our players was injured, etc. That was one team at one game, but it stuck with us.

We had a good experience at their tryout and chose to go with them (also a 2016). Looking forward to the season.

Gunston is a small club but if your child has friends there, it's a good place to start. Once you learn the landscape and have a chance to see how things go, you can look around if you'd like but there is no real reason to decline. I hope your family enjoys travel soccer!

DD spent many years there before moving to another club that had more opportunities.

Gunston is a safe place for your little to love the sport if the commute is good for you and she enjoys her teammates. It’s not a destination club but one that’s great for the immediate community.

Just know the opportunities narrow drastically for the teens and capped at the lower leagues for now.
