Can I join cub scout for summer?

Anonymous
Anyone knows if cub scout is full year or only during school years? I have been thinking of cub scouts for a few years since K, and my rising 4 th grader is still not in cub scouts yet. Partially it was due to COVID, and then partially it is due to schedule conflicts. I feel like he can benefit from joining cub scout, but he already has quite many commitments for sports. Since most sport commitment pause in summer, I want to see if I can apply now since we are quite free in summer. He is social skills lacking and physical strength lacking (yes, even though he does many sports, lack of endurance and like to whine/give up) are main reasons we want him to join cub scout. If it goes well,we will try the best to continue to the fall.

I only know our troop, but there are no meetings in the summer. There is one weekend campout and some other camp-type of activities.

No, they take a break over the summer. You can start up next fall.

No, he would need to join the troop in August/September. Although you could reach out now to ask your local contact to put you on the communications. There may be summer camps or activities he can join before being an official member.

Echoing the above, summer is basically just a single camp out, otherwise we're on break.

Ok thank you. I will reach out first.

Cub Scouts = Pack, not a Troop. Most Packs do not have a lot going on during the summer. Our Pack normally did one thing each month but there were no meetings.

Troops, when kids are 11 and/or in 6th grade, meet during the summer.

You cannot participate in Scout Camp without being a member of the Pack because there are liability issues. You could join just for the summer to participate in summer camp but you can also just sign up for summer camp.
