What the hell happened to our schools? There was a group of students shoving and not listening to adults, the adult lost it and swung back, and the school is calling 10 (TEN) social wórkers to have on site to make sure students 'process their feelings and feel safe' while the adult has been suspended.
What happened to suspending the kids involved? Why should anyone not involved need 'process their feelings '? What happened to expecting kids to pay a minimum of respect to teachers, by at least following directions and not shoving them? |
Are you saying a group of kids were shoving one staff member?
A staff member hit a child? I would assume if this is true it would be a lot for a middle school child that witnessed either to process. |
I can't imagine the kids involved in shoving aren't also being suspended like the staff member who struck a kid. But MCPS hesitates to talk about students because they are overly concerned about FERPA.
But the video is pretty bad. But even if you punished every kid who shoved or recorded the events, there were dozens of other kids who were caught up in the crowd and were also pushed and shoved in the middle of what appeared to be a very uncontrolled chaos that resulted in a trusted adult striking a child. This is precisely the kind of traumatic situation where I am glad that there are protocols for providing support to school communities. |
Does anyone have a link to the video or the letter that was sent home to parents? |
Video link? |
Was it one staff member or more? So staff fought back? |
This is scary and I think reflects the state of schools. If you aren’t in a school it is hard to comprehend how much things have changed. I am not sure this gets better. |
Wow this is crazy but believable. The state of schools, esp MCPS is crazy rn |
You could not pay me to work in schools. Sounds like a nightmare |
Then the kids will get off with a hug and sent back to the classroom.
|
Does anyone have details on what happened? |
It’s an 80% poverty school rated 3/10, ESPL too (about 65%). Why is anyone surprised stuff like that happened there. |
This is why schools don't deserve teachers. They have to take all the blame about everything without even a protocol on how to protect yourself. If a kid hurts their fist on a teachers face the teacher will be blamed. I don't recommend teaching as a serious profession. |
Did a teacher hit a student in this case? |
