Fall baseball teams for HS players

Anonymous
DS currently plays on a mid level travel baseball team and is starting at a new (small) high school in the fall. I know a lot of high schools in MD/DC have an informal or low key fall ball team, but his new school does not. He plans to play for his school in the spring so we are trying to figure out options for him for the fall. He is also doing a fall sport at school so really looking for a baseball team that is low key (eg practices over a week, games on weekends), but has kids who are decent players.

How do you define “mid level”? Does your current travel team get kids recruited to college? If so, any D1 or mostly D3?

Trying to better understand the level of play you are after for the new team.

Also, where are you generally and how far do you want to travel for practices.

Mid level travel meaning most of the kids are focused on making their HS team with a few kids who have aspirations to play in college (D3). Mostly local tournaments and weekend double headers. Kids are all strong athletes who want more competition and commitment levels. We live in Chevy Chase, MD and are looking for a team in MD or NW DC.

Here are local options that fit the bill:

- DC Reds (part of DC Dynasty and has lots of Jackson-Reed players. Practice at Ft Reno. Used to be Gatorball but disbanded).
- DMV Prospects: run by Whitman Coach. Don’t know where they practice. Lots of Whitman, BCC and Walter Johnson kids
- Five Star Mid Atlantic: run by Landon Coach. Practice at Turtle Park in Dc
- DigIn. Run out of Gaithersburg. Don’t know the coaches but they have good teams

An easy option would be to get placed in a team with Xposure league for the fall. Many Montgomery county area HS have preformed teams but you can also be placed on a team. However, the games are during the week, and not sure if there are practices or not.

Sounds like my son and same age. He plays for a “B” travel team for a club (the A team is elite kids aiming for D1, doing showcases etc)

I’d ask around but also look on the Facebook baseball group for your area. Lots of teams posting right now about tryouts in my area.

Do you have senior Babe Ruth? My son plays in the fall and it’s just games, no practice so pretty easy to fit in. Usually one Saturday, one weekday.
