I've been on DCUM for years, am a neighbor of yours, and have been in software development (as a programmer and product manger) for 20+ years. Need any help with the site?

I don't need a job -- just appreciative of what you've put together.

For the most part we have everything under control but there are always areas for improvement. Can you program in Java?

Is there a way to automatically identify the author of a post, through their IP address, and label each of their follow-ups with an "OP" designation? Someone today was complaining that they had created a thread and then been impersonated on that same thread.

People's IP address change so this would have limitations. That poster should have reported the imposter to me and I would have dealt with them.

I programmed in Java for 4 years before switching to php so it’s been a while.

In my experience, there’s a lot of inaccurately assuming the identity of a poster (OP, PP, DP, etc.) simply because posters often don’t use those identifiers when replying to a post. Actually, I’m guilty of failing to use them consistently.

Separately, Jeff, wouldn’t you be extremely wary of providing database access to a rando poster offering “to help”. There are questionable posters in the political forum that rabidly attack others who are critical of Israel and obsess over doxxing them, hoping the IC is monitoring them, etc.

Of course Jeff should be wary and in no world would he hand over code & database access to someone based on an offer in a forum.
