How important are reservations if we are going at the end of June? We aren’t aiming for the Insta spots or most popular places. Do you usually reserve closer to date? Also-any recommendations for food places? Restaurants, cafes, or even street food? |
Reserve well in advance for hot places. |
Allard is very old Paris even though it's a Ducasse now it's still old school. |
Yes, I'd make reservations. June is busy.

Any recs for specific places? |
DP here. Just to eat anywhere? Even nowhere special? Between the advance tickets required to absolutely everything and now this, it puts a ton of extra work on the family travel planner and also removes any spontaneity! What if I make a reservation for 6, but I don’t feel like eating until 8! Or vice versa! Or I end up in a different part of the city! We haven’t been in a long time but this is not feeling that fun to me. |
Honestly, dinner in Paris can be kind of hard if you're trying to avoid the super touristy places. There can be an intimidation factor, the menus can be opaque, and some places aren't that welcoming. I would make a few reservations and wing it the other nights. It's a city, you can always go to a grocery store or market if you are truly desperate for food. |
No, why would you make a reservation for normal places? I'm French and never do. |
Years ago, we took advice from Ina Garten Paris cookbook and had a great meal. Very old bistro called Benoit. Menu is online, tried to go earlier this year and it was booked |
I've had pretty good luck using The Fork app even in the summer to book tables on the day-of in Paris. |
We had an airbnb in a great neighborhood, were there during the Olympics, and never made any reservations for a meal, just sort of wondered around where we ended up and had some great meals. We didn't want to be tied down by having to leave xxx to get to yyy if we were having fun where we were. Worked out great, even when the city was teaming with people |
Maje reservations
Right now Americans are not welcome much They turn you away….. |
I’ve not heard of this at all. |
Make "placeholder" reservations for a few nights of your trip. We had no problem walking into casual restaurants in the St. Germain neighborhood. Also, we ate early - like at 5:30 or 6 before places got crowded. |
If you speak French how do they know you're American? |
