Infertility Support and Discussion
I am currently seeing an RE who is the one that found the polyp, but she doesn't want to schedule anything until getting some bloodwork back from immune testin which will take another week. I was wondering if I should check in with my regular ob/gyn and see what they say. Last time I saw them was in August, about 3 weeks after a d&c for a miscarriage. They told me to wait one cycle and try again, but since a polyp was found I know have to wait until that is removed, which is why I want to get it removed sooner rather than later. Do regular ob/gyn's remove polyps?
I would always opt for an RE over a regular OB/GYN for reproductive surgery. They do it much more often, and are typically better surgeons.
Agree with PP but it depends on who your RE is, I had a bad experience with a SG female RE.
The RE I'm seeing said she would schedule surgery to remove it between days 5-12 of my cycle, but my ob said they could remove it anytime. Why would I have to wait for days 5-12 of my cycle?
In general they prefer you not to be bleeding, as it can make it hard to tell what exactly is going on when they are doing the surgery. Many REs prefer to do things before ovulation, as well, to make sure that they aren't harming a potentially unknown pregnancy. |
Agree with PP that RE's do this sort of thing more often than Ob's. If you are thinking your Ob could do it at any time, you might want to check again. I go to GW MFA and my OB only does surgeries 1 day a month.
I was told by 2 RE's that any surgery involving the uterus should be done after your period and before ovulation which leaves a narrow window, but it really makes sense when you think about it. the samw applies to an HSG or even a mock embryo transfer.
Your RE is more specialized in this area and is already guiding you through the right direction. I got one removed and got pregnant after a few months. The polyp can grow bigger over time and depending on the location can inhibit you from getting pregnant.
I would go to Shady Grove to get the polyp removed - they do an excellent job. They probably will put you on birth control to avoid having to worry about scheduling the surgery in between the period and ovulation - I was not happy about this but they know what they are doing so I just trusted them. They are very careful not to damage the uterus and the birth control helps this because it keeps the lining very thin so they can really see what they are doing. It is a very quick and minor procedure with no pain for me and I went to work the next day. I highly recommend them.
