Potomac Soccer Color Tiers

My son did not make one of the Premier teams for Potomac, but was offered a spot on the black team. Are the colors tiered? Is black a higher skill level than silver or white?

I believe Black is the third team. So, Premier I, Premier II, Black. I’m not sure about the order of the other colors.

Scroll to the very bottom of the page where it lists the coaches here: https://potomacsoccer.org/travel-soccer/boys/

It's usually Premier I, Premier II, Black, Gray, Silver, White except in 2014 where someone decided to introduce Red just to confuse people...

So is black the 4th and Red the 3rd for 2014 players?

This is interesting. DS is a 2008 who played for Potomac when young and the top team was blue, 2nd was white and 3rd was black. I’m surprised white is now so far down.

This is correct. For 2014s its:

P1
P2
Red
Black
Grey

Why don’t clubs just number the teams and call it a day? Colors or names don’t do anything but confuse people.

Because they need to euphemize playing on one of the club’s bottom teams.

I think that’s the point!

My kid’s club teams go Gold, White, Black, Silver. How does that make any sense!

They changed it to where 1 = old Blue and 2 = old white. I didn’t know they introduced white back down the totem poll.

Bethesda is similar. Blue used to be top. Now it’s third or fourth. All the bigger clubs have bumped their colors down, it seems, in favor of numbers and throwing in ECNL, GA, etc. even at younger ages.

Touche. Still, everyone knows what team is better than the next- just stop pretending with all the colors.

Thanks! We were told there would be 6 teams in total. So, would Potomac’s 4th team out of 6 be comparable to the 3rd team out of 4 at a similar club?

What do you mean by a comparable club? Depends on the comparison.

The two clubs are very similar in size and location and are often compared on this forum. Both teams participate in the same league, with Potomac playing in the lowest group of a higher level (with more losses) and the other in the top group of the level just below (with more wins).
