How do I lose weight and keep it off???

Anonymous
Over the course of 4 weeks I managed to lose 5 lbs (of the 15 I want to lose) by meticulously counting calories (1450 per day max). And I just undid it all in the course of one weekend, and I didn’t even go totally crazy.

On Saturday we went out to dinner with some friends at a Mexican restaurant and I had 2 skinny margaritas and some chips and guacamole, in addition to my chicken fajitas (no tortillas). Rest of the day was healthy (cottage cheese and berries for breakfast, grilled chicken salad for lunch).

Yesterday for Mother’s Day I ate healthy except for having one piece of cheesecake and one glass of wine (no breakfast, egg white veggie omelette with salad for lunch).

Weighed myself this morning and I gained back all 5 lbs. So frustrated because it seems totally unrealistic to never indulge again. How do others do it?

Good and bad news: Some of it was water weight.
Keep at it, and in 4 more weeks I bet you will be down 5-6 total.

You didn’t entirely undue anything. You didn’t over consume 16,000 additional calories. Just get back on track and consider what is a realistic way of handling all this in the future, consistently, as a lifestyle.

+1. Just get back to it today.

It’s just water weight. You didn’t actually gain 5 lbs of fat in 2 days. You really didn’t indulge much at all.

When this happens to me, I do a mini-fast the next day or two- drink lots of water/green tea and only eat fruits and vegetables and a little protein.

agreed on water weight, and the Mexican restaurant with all the salt is to blame. You'll be fine. Get back at it.

Stop weighing yourself daily. It will fluctuate every day.

This is how I lost 20 lbs in 3 months and have kept it off.

1) 2 meals a day (IF). 8 hours eating window. NO CALORIE RESTRICTION AT ALL.

2) Plant based whole food (Vegan), no processed food, every thing made from scratch at home.

3) Zero sugar. Zero rice. No fried food. No junk food. No alcohol.

4) Tortillas made from a variety of whole grain flour - wheat, millets, pulses, flaxseed.

5) Lentils and beans, nuts and seeds (chia, sunflower, pumpkin, hempseed, flaxseed, sesame, almonds, cashew, walnuts, pinenuts), a variety of fermented, cooked and raw veggies in each meal in big quantities. Fruits in each meal. Spices and herbs, lemons.

6) Lots of veggi soup for hyderation, 2 glasses of cold pressed mixed veggi juice - (spinach, kale, carrots, beets, cilantro, ginger, cucumber, tomatos, lettuce, mint, gooseberry, granny smith apple)

This is effortless, no-sweat, no hunger, no craving, no loss of energy, no bloating, no constipation, clear skin, healthy hair, no coating on tongue, no bad breath, no farting, no BO - diet.

This is the reason I weigh myself daily. I got much more comfortable with fluctuations once I saw them rather than just hearing about it as an abstract thought but not believing it.

It’s just a piece of information. It has no value by itself.

Google “weight loss graph” and you will see that real weight loss is not linear. Just keep going! Eyes on the prize that is.

It was the chips. Sustainably, that's what you should have skipped from those meals, or just limit yourself to only a few.

It's just water weight from all of the salt. It will go back down.

+1. I'm sure you're not back where you started, but the scale will go up as well as down. Take it slow and make it sustainable.

We have different versions of effortless. Even your veggie soup and green juice take a lot of effort.
