Is the Quince Orchard area safe?

Anonymous
Brought my child to the Quince Orchard library to kill some time before a nearby appointment and there’s a police car stationed in the parking lot and private security patrolling inside. I’ve never seen this at a library before.

Is this a joke post? That area is one of the quietest, most boring, safest suburbs in the entire area.

Where exactly are you from where seeing a police car and security guard is cause for alarm? I'm pretty sure even Monaco and Luxembourg have police and security. For gods sake Cartier and Tiffany stores have security guards. You're acting like the library is handing you a 40 with your books through a revolving bulletproof barrier.

Well, we just left after a fight broke out inside the library that a librarian broke up. So I’m going with “not very safe”. I have never seen this happen at another MoCo library in the many years I’ve lived here. I asked the librarian whether it happens often and she said it does, which is why they have the private security guard (who didn’t get there in time to break up this particular fight). She said the high schoolers come and hang out and they are the ones who cause the trouble. It’s bizarre, since I also thought this was a quiet and boring suburban area.

It's MoCo. Enough said.

At 1:08pm you happened to question if the area was safe an lo and behold, by 1:42pm a fight had coincidentally broken out.

If you say so.

I’m not sure how many public libraries in MoCo are directly across the street from public high schools. It’s not that the library is unsafe; it’s that high school kids get into fights whenever they congregate. I’m guessing this fight you’re talking about happened within one hour of QO’s 2:30 dismissal?

I gave one kid who attends QO and one who attends Poolesville. I pick them both up at the QO library every day at 3:00, when the magnet bus drops one off at the high school. The other one spends the half hour waiting for me in the library. Neither kid feels unsafe.

It’s one of the more sketchy parts of the county.

The MOST dangerous area in all of Montgomery County, based on number of calls for service and violent crimes reported, is the bus lot/transfer station on Lost Knife Rd next to the old Lakeforest Mall site property.
