My son is an ECNL player in the Class of 2026. While some of his teammates have secured commitments to D1 programs, his team competes in the bottom tier of ECNL. So far, he has not received interest from D1 coaches, though he has been contacted by D3 schools. Given this, should we focus more on D2 and D3 opportunities, or is there still a realistic pathway for him to pursue D1 recruitment?
Additionally, I’d appreciate any guidance on strengthening his chances of being recruited by a D1 program. What key steps should we take to increase his visibility, attract interest, and improve his prospects at that level? |

D1 coaches generally won’t talk to you until you have other offers. So you need to get offers from the D2/3 schools and leverage that.
But why does your son want to play D1 vs D2/3 despite the prestige? Is he trying to go pro? If not, why wouldn’t any offer be good enough? If he is trying to go pro, there are still pathways from non D1 schools. |
You should be communicating with his coach and club. Coming to an anonymous forum where posters call college soccer a recreational league, is not going to help you or your child. |
