organic produce

I posted this to the general parenting list, though I wonder whether it is more appropriate in the food forum, so I am posting here as well!

Was curious on the folk's thoughts on buying organic gorceries/food? I like to buy everything organic but they are expensive. I also wonder what the label 'organic' covers, and what the suppliers/sellers are marketing as organic!

I was at the doc's the other day and in a magazine was the list of the dirty dozen that you should always buy organic if you can afford it. It included: peaches, celery, strawberries, apples, blueberries (domestic), nectarines sweet bell peppers, spinach, cherries, kale, potatoes, grapes (imported). I will try to do that. As for "safe" produce, the list was:onions, avocado, pineapple, mangoes, asparagus, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, cantelope (domestic), watermelon, grapefruit, sweet potatoes, honeydew. Does anyone else have any "rules" they follow?
