I have been battling my weight for 10 years. I’m a mother to kids under 10.
I’m 42 years old, 5’11, and 250 pounds. I am desperate to be healthier, happier, slimmer. It was quickly and easily approved but I haven’t even processed it or considered it. It was mentioned at my PCP, and approved all within a week. I’m excited but scared! Should I go for it? |
What will the cost be for you? Currently waiting approval but I suspect my insurance won't cover. I think you should try it. |
Yay! If heart disease runs in your family, the anti inflammatory benefits are reason enough to do it. |
Be causious of the side effects. |
Yes it’s incredible |
Go for it! I would pair it with a basic Weight watchers membership, on the GLP1 setting. It will help guide your eating.stink lots of water, 2 fiber gummies a day...do it!
(Signed 45 yo who has lost 30bs --what I wanted to lose--on it and feels so much better). |
Weight watchers is in bankruptcy |
I hesitated but decided to try it. I’m so glad I did. At least give it a shot. I’ve had no side effects. |
Can you elaborate? What does it feel like? How did you lose weight? Do you think it’s more psychological or physical? |
Spend some time in the Reddit forums. They have great information and less disordered eating than here. |
Definitely do it! I e lost 25lbs. Feel amazing. Minimal side effects. I just don’t feel like eating that much. It’s taken all of the food/diet noise out of my head that I’ve had for a decade now. |
Definitely do it - I really don't understand the fear, as the vast majority have no side effects, and if you are one who does, slow the titration, stay on the lower dose longer. |
How do you get approved for this? I'm 50 lbs overweight and can't handle being overweight anymore. I have side aches and feet issues as a result. |
It has changed my life. I am happy and excited for you. Unreservedly, I say, go for it. You have nothing to lose but the extra weight! GLP-1 has given me such a peace about food and eating. I feel and look better than I have in years.
To answer someone's questions above of 1) what does it feel like and 2) how did you lose weight: It helps you feel full by increasing satiety signals to the brain and also slowing digestion. I felt this effect almost immediately, within hours of my first injection, although I have read that for some people, it can take much longer and also require higher doses before they feel anything. After years of battling hunger, cravings and frequent binge eating episodes, I felt both shocked and tremendously relieved that suddenly, on this medication, I could eat more like a "normal" person and feel perfectly content. I can also eat pretty much anything I want...can go out for pizza, can stop for ice cream with my kids...it's just that, I can feel totally full and happy after one slice of pizza or after a child size cup of ice cream. And because I'm no longer plagued with constant cravings for crap food, I'm making much better decisions about what to eat most times. I feel great after having a salad and grilled chicken for lunch, and feel no urge to snack for the rest of the afternoon. Miraculous. How did I lose weight? Simple - by eating many fewer calories than typical. My first few weeks on my GLP-1, I was eating sub-1000 calories per day because that's all I really felt I could eat. I remember that first day after my first shot, I didn't feel an ounce of hunger until after lunch time, and I scrambled myself two eggs and peeled clementine. I enjoyed the food, but I couldn't finish the plate. Literally that had never happened to me in my entire life - I am one who wolfs down my food and then feels sad when my plate is empty, because I want more. Because I had been eating 2500-4000 calories prior to starting the med, the weight fell off very fast in the beginning with my huge calorie deficit. I stuck close to the starting dose the whole time because I was a strong responder; you may need to titrate up as clinically recommended. I wish you all the best. Be excited! This drug is a miracle. |
My PCP talked me into Wegovy at my annual physical about a year ago. I finally agreed to it because my A1c was getting a little high. So with both obesity (starting BMI was 36) and an A1c that was creeping up, I gave it a try. FWIW, my weight gain and obesity was as a result of medication.
I’ve lost about 60 pounds over the past year, and I feel so much better now that I’m no longer obese. So I’m glad I went on it. However, it has not been easy. I have had quite severe side effects, and I still have them. And my doctor says, and I agree, that I will need to be on the drug for life. I won’t get into the details of my side effects (because it’s pretty gross) except to say that I’ve had really bad GI side effects and fatigue. But I had been suffering the health effects of obesity; I have severe obstructive sleep apnea, was having trouble with my knee joints, was always tired, had high cholesterol, etc. And now that I’ve lost weight I am doing so much better. I still have about 20 pounds to lose, and the weight loss is very very slow now, but yeah it’s been worth it. So I’m excited for you. Hopefully the side effects won’t be as bad for you as they have been for me. Communicate with your doctor about them, and stay on top of them. |
