GA Talent ID

We are new to the GA this year. How are girls chosen for the GA Talent ID? Does each team's coach nominate? Do the GA scouts come to watch games?

The clubs are given allotments, typically based on where the club is standing in league play. The club then gives those out to the players THEY feel deserve it, among other reasons.

Sounds like a system fraught with drama.

Very well can be if there's no oversight, but truthfully that's how it is with even the US Talent ID center's. Imagine the number of entries a person or a team of people would have to go through if there was some sort of oversight or evaluation to determine whether a nomination/selection actually should be, there's just no way. Federation, leagues, etc have to rely on people's recommendations to select. Now the problem later comes if those selections don't pan out, or consistently end up not showing out, then people or clubs lose credibility. It's all a part of the business.

US Soccer has scouts do evaluations. GA is based off DOC nomination.

I think parents have this fantasy that the scouts somehow watch all the players, on every team, play 3 full matches and magically select their kid from all the others; as if the clouds part, in the sky above and some all-wise, all-seeing scout sees the unique talent that only their player has.

That’s a more pleasant thought than what actually occurs: Top teams get 4 slots, middle teams get 3, bottom teams get 1-2. Then the clubs decide who to select. It’s more of an administrative drill.

Some clubs use Talent ID invites as recruiting tools.

I’m interested if anything has come from these talent IDs. What’s the next step after the regional IDs? And so on

National ID during GA Finals in July for best of the best. Pretty sure the u16 Gen Addidas picks came from that u15 national ID last year for example

In the case of GA, "all star" teams of players across age groups are selected from the regional IDs to compete at the same time as the national playoffs. There are 10 or more GA conferences each having their own talent ID so it's a pretty small number who will make this all star team (less than 10% from the regional IDs). Unlike these conference talent IDs which are selected by their own club, making the national/all star talent ID is a legit accomplishment based more on merit and provides a nice showcase opportunity during playoff finals event.

I know how it was done in Rochester. The director for some reason has pull with the GA, and he selects the same girls every year, even when there are better girls on the teams. You need to be a friend of his to get your kid selected.

Go away, Rochester dad.
