| I’d love to hear about any cool field trips your elementary school kid went on, along with the grade (and school if willing to share). Our teachers mentioned they’re always looking for new ideas, so I’m curious what other schools are doing. |
| Nothing? |
| Ours went to a kids show of some kind. A play or musical? And they visited a working farm. |
| National zoo, Baltimore aquarium, Mt Vernon, Hershey Park, Pumpkin Patch for K in the fall, Maryland Science Center, Luray Caverns |
|
The zoo, a farm (that also had a fall festival at the time), a nature center, the Air and Space Museum, and the American History Museum.
|
| Overnight trip to Williamsburg/Jamestown, and while DC has graduated I saw in FB that they did one to Birmingham AL this year. For field trips, there’s no way I can remember them all. Various Smithsonian/National Gallery trips, the Word Museum, Lincoln’s Cottage, that sort of thing. |

OMG these are wealthy districts.
We had one field trip period in k-6. |
| 3-4 day trip to Maine to study ecology |
| Public school kids here. Woodend, black hills nature center, brookside, art museums downtown, pumpkin patches, Strathmore shows. |
This is OP and I was actually thinking these are mostly not that fancy for private schools (aside from the multi day trip to Maine). I thought there might be some behind the scenes visits at Smithsonian institutions etc. Or something off the beaten path that is very hands on for kids (eg outdoor adventures). The FCPS elementary school in our area does trips to Jamestown, and the science centers in Baltimore and Richmond but these are the big trips for those years (3rd and 4th I think). Maybe my expectations are too high and field trips are not a priority for most schools/ teachers. |
| Smithsonian Environmental Research Center is an awesome field trip. |
OP here and this is on my list so I’m glad to hear! What ages / grades do you think it’s best suited for? |
| There are so many. Over the past few years, I think our kid’s class has to be most of the nature spots in the area, including Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (mentioned above), the Kennedy Center, the Imagination Stage and various other performance spaces, several different museums, the Maryland Science Center, the Museum of Science and Industry in Baltimore, an embassy, the Capitol Building and a bunch of other neighborhood spots. |
