Looking to name my daughter Serra. Sarah is a family name, however my name has a bit of an earthy meaning and is of Spanish origin, so I thought it would be a good idea to partially commerate my side as DD will have an American middle and surname. I know that she'll spend her entire life correcting people and they may call her Sierra(we do not want to choose this name). What are your thoughts? |
I wouldn’t do it. If you want to give her something that will require clarifying action make it her middle name so she has to do it less often. |
As a Sarah, she’ll have to correct people her whole life no matter what because of the h or no h issue. But I prefer the original spelling. |
Try Cera. |
I know a Serra, and she gets called SEE-rah all the time. Just a heads up. |
that’s odd because “Serra” is not a Spanish first name as far as I know. “Sierra” makes more sense. Or just “Sara” pronounced the Spanish way. |
That means “wax” in Spanish. |
No. |
I like ethnic names usually but not if they just seem like an incorrect spelling of a common US name |
If you name her Sarah people will just ask "with an H or without?" but if you name her Serra people will spell it Sara/h and call her Sara/h or Sierra. |
I love the name Serra. I knew a talented turkish woman with that name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serra_(given_name)

Hope your last name is not Ve |
NP. You obviously have no connections to California. Serra has extremely negative connotations in the state, particularly among the younger generations. |
Name her Wax then. At least people know how to spell. |
Just spell it sir-ahhh cause that’s how people will pronounce it. |
