| Rising 11th grader. |
| My two had 7 and 8 |

Assuming you are talking about ED at schools like Emory, SMU, Tulane, etc...7-10 is more than enough.
2 science, 2 english, 3 history, two math, 1 foreign language |
| Is 3 a possibility? |
Emory has 14% acceptance rate. |
Name a few schools your kid is interested in. People are getting confused on this post. |
|
Depends what your student wants to major in?
Generally, a good guideline for a humanity major is: 2 AP English 2 AP Math (including Calculus) 2 AP History/Soc Studies (including US History) 1 AP Language 1 AP Science So that would be 8-ish, but it would be different (maybe more) for a STEM major. |
| Will also depend how many are offered at the school. |
|
As many as DC can handle and still get good grades. Goal is to have most rigorous box checked by school counselor. Also want to have GPA near the top of class. Even if school doesn’t rank colleges see where your kid falls on a percentile basis at their HS.
So, most likely 8+ if school offers a decent amount of APs. |

Trick question, there are no 25-40% acceptance rate schools.
(There are some schools where a higher in-state acceptance rate and a lower OOS acceptance rate average out to something in that range. And there are schools where a higher ED acceptance rate and a lower RD acceptance rate average out to something in that range. But there are no schools where a given applicant is in a pool with a 25-40% acceptance rate.) |

D25 accepted to school with 30% (ish) acceptance rate. The schools she targeted consistency said, it's not about the number of APs. They wanted to see she was taking the most rigorous coursework offered/available. She took 9 APs and 1DE.
2 AP English 2 AP Math (including Calc) 3 AP History (including APUSH) 1 AP Science/1 DE Science 1 AP Lang Also, she mainly took honors courses in 9th and 10th, as her school only allowed 1AP in sophomore year. Equally important, she did well on her APs (all 5s, and one 4 so far). It's not about the number. It's about the story conveyed by the coursework combined with other aspects of application. Especially if your school is known for a bit of grade inflation (which most are post-COVID). Multiple proof points, including strong SAT/ACT scores, rigor, AP exam scores, and a solid essay, can help tell the story. |

+! Tulane had a 13% acceptance rate and Wake a 22%. |
| Bad premise. Acceptance rate is based on marketing, not expectations. |
