Do you bathe during a storm?

Anonymous
When I was growing up there was a strict rule in my house against bathing or talking on the phone during a storm. I mentioned it to my husband, who had never heard of it. I know the risk or harm is incredibly low, and I also had no issues just washing a sink full of dishes. But as much as I’d like to, I can’t bring myself to take a bath while it’s thundering. Anyone else avoid bathing during a storm?

Outside in the rain storm. Especially when DH comes home from work in his row boat.

I worry about showering in a thunder storm. It's rare but not impossible to be killed. But sometimes we get long storms and I need to shower for the next day so I rush through it.

I’m from Florida and absolutely we had these rules. I think everyone we knew had at some point lost a VCR or TV to lightning strike so it felt very close. Running around every afternoon in summer to unplug TV and expensive electronics.

I agree there have not been many people sticky by lightning shower recently, I think modern house grounding helps. But also remember people who live in frequent thunderstorm areas generally KNOWS not to shower. So it’s hard to separate.

I grew up learning the same - never ever shower during a thunderstorm! Same with unplugging the TV. I still can’t bring myself to do it unless I absolutely have to.

Never heard of it!

I adhere to this rule. I know people who got knocked out when lightening struck during a shower. It’s just not worth chancing it in my opinion. Water conducts electricity. There’s a reason pools are evacuated during thunder storms.

We have frequent thunderstorms in this area. People post about this all the time. So, it's not common knowledge.

If you think showering during a thunderstorm is risky, you should stop driving.

No. You don’t swim during an electrical storm either. Lifeguarding 101.

Never heard of this. If it's time for me to get in the shower, even if it's storming, I'm getting in the shower

It’s a thing.

Storm Power surges are no joke. Can break appliances and TVs.

Lightning into your nearby tree broke my brothers entire pool system and electronic systems in the house. Tree trunk was toasted and the roots carried the surge to the pool equipment and fuse hose system nearby the hit tree. Very near.

Insurance paid for and fixed everything but pits for sure and thankfully no kids touching anything at time of strike.

Same. Storm showers are right up there with beer showers.

Don’t know about showers during a lightning strike but TVs and anything with a digital clock even can blow out circuits.

Grew up with the same and I don’t shower during thunderstorms. I’ve also taught my child the same.

My dad always said this and my husband thought I was crazy.
