Bar harbor with young kids - where to stay?

Considering a trip to Bar Harbor this summer with kids 4 and 7. The plan is to walk around the town, hike in the park (possibly splitting kids), do a boat ride and stuff like that.

Any tips for family-friendly places to stay in town? Would love to find a suite with two spaces, but kids are a little young for adjoining rooms. A living room or something like that would be great, for asynchronous sleeping. Budget is flexible.

VRBO, get a house so you can have breakfast in. I would stay on one of the LL Bean lines, so you don't have to drive anywhere. Also would not stay in Bar Harbor - too loud, too late at night for old me and young kids

You’ll want to check local real estate agencies. You’ll also want to get lodging asap. I think for your first visit I would stay closer to bar harbor. Yes it’s busy. But manageable plus you’ll be close to grocery, dinner and NP bus.

I've been to the island several times and could not agree more.

If you're on the island for a week, one trip into town is fine.

Not PP but LL Bean sponsors the National Park bus that goes around the island. Staying near one of its stops is helpful if you want to minimize car travel (and parking).

To the PP who suggested VRBO (and this applies to AirBnB, etc)…we’ve seen some out of norm pricing (very high!) on VRBO listings. Check local agencies first.

If you want to stay in town and have the ability to walk everywhere, highly recommend the Bar Harbor Inn. Not sure if they have two bedroom units but we rented a two level unit that had a living area downstairs with a sleeper sofa and a bath on both floors. However, you may be too late to find anywhere in Bar Harbor for this summer. In my experience, places book up early

I’ve never stayed here, but the Salt Cottages look cute. Just outside of town. On the bus line.

The harborside hotel (opal) had a room with a king and a set of bunkbeds in a little alcove. It worked well for our two kids and was much less than a suite.

Just saw your budget is flexible- there are great suites at the harborside too. We loved it.

Also- stay in the town- that’s what makes bar harbor fun!
