Both of my DDs have flat feet and loose ligaments (ankle issues), one has an extra bone in her foot that sometimes causes pain, especially if someone steps on her (which obv happens all the time) . They have custom insoles. One plays mostly on turf, the other practices on grass but games are mostly on turf.
Anyone have recommendations for the best cleats that provide a ton of support, protection for the foot, and ideally are decent for ankles (those "socks" don't really do much, though). My DH thinks leather is better (IDK why). Thank you. Price not important (paying an extra $100 to avoid an injury is absolutely worth it to me). |

There’s not going to be a particular cleat that we can recommend - soccer cleats are designed to be tight fitting allowing players to “feel” the ball and ground. The cleat that will work best for her is the one that fits best with all the extra supports she needs. I would go to a cleat/soccer store and get fitted and bring any orthotics, braces etc with you and try on lots of styles.
In MD, I like PJ sports and Rockville soccer. |
| Have you tried taping up the ankle/foot? I like Nikes for their warranty. |
| Try curex soccer cleat insole |
| May also depend on age and level? What do they wear now? Are they in AG, MG, or FG boots? Sounds like you have insoles covered, which is probably almost as important as the shoe itself if you have the issues you describe above. If you didn’t have insoles already, would recommend Currex Cleatpro. Higher-quality leather might mold to the foot a bit better after breaking them in. But it really is a preference. As the PP said, probably worth going into a shop to try on different options. |
| An extra bone ... Perhaps the accessory navicular? One of my kids had that and needed a boot/out several months as a result of it getting inflamed. Best thing we found until at least the kid is done growing ... cleat inserts. Pricey but very effective. |
| Soccer cleats allow lots of ankle movement by design. Best solution I found as a player with similar issues was to make sure I’m wearing AG cleats on turf, not FG. The other big thing was taking my insoles with me to the store and trying on 5-6 pairs of cleats to find one that fit well. It may not be their favorite logo that fits best, but proper fitment and proper studs for the surface will go a long way. |

The most comfortable cleats in the world should help any foot:
Mizuno Morelia II Made in Japan You can thank me later... |
| Does anyone have experience with the IDA cleats? Designed for women. Michelle Kang is an investor. |
Bought a size 4 for my daughter, sad to report they were very uncomfortable and seemed cheep and we couldn't even send them back. Customer service never returned our e-mails. But, the IDA futdal shoes look comfortable. |
She will become a super rich woman if IDA figures this out. The cleat market is huge, it would be amazing if IDA even takes 1/10th of it. |
Ugh. I read something similar or Reddit about the brand. Makes me sad. |
go to a running store like pacers and have her professionally fitted |

tldr: If your kids play on artificial grass, find some AG-only cleats.
AG/FG cleats don't cut it, as the very thing that makes cleats good for FG (i.e., natural grass) make them poor choices for AG. It's tough to find true AG boots for kids; you may have to import them from Europe. Puma makes a nice MG boot (multi-ground) which is a good choice for artificial grass. I buy mine from Unisport. https://youtu.be/jwa3xJTYvXs?si=HaTLA3JVj1UkslMI |
