6 week old sleeping a lot all of the sudden...should i be worried

Anonymous
I have a 6 week old who is sleeping a lot the last few days. Is this something to be concerned about? She doesn't have a fever. Yesterday she was not eating very well...today she is eating for longer periods of time. Should I call the doctor?

I think you can just be grateful!

I seem to remember this being normal. If she doesn't have a fever, and has the normal amount of wet and poopy diapers, and doesn't seem lethargic, I wouldn't worry too much.

Call the Doctor if you need reassurance or if you are at all unsure.

Yes, that happened with us. Three and 6 weeks are growth spurts. I also assume your baby is probably over 12 pounds by now which our ped. said was the usually the weight babies are when they begin to sleep for longer stretches. Looks like your baby is a good sleeper.

Enjoy the extra hours of peace and quiet.

i don't think she is over 12...she was 9 lb 8 oz last monday...she seems to be eating less which i thought does not indicate a growth spurt

Rejoice! You've made it to the six week growth spurt. Babies tend to eat more and sleep more when they are growing.

I think growth spurts can be marked by eating more OR less. Mine always ate less than made up for it several days later.

I miss those wonderful growth spurts! Mine seemed to sleep for two days straight. Seems like ages ago and DD is 15 mo.
