APS middle school National Junior Honor Society

Anonymous
My 6th grader received a letter saying she was selected for membership in NJHS, and the induction ceremony will be sometime in May (TBD).
This was the first time I heard that our school had an NJHS chapter. Our school (or any APS middle school) does not even show up in the "chapter finder" on the NJHS website, but I was able to open an account for DD via the school ID as instructed in the letter.

I wanted to see if anyone has done NJHS through an APS middle school, and what to expect? I sent an email to the teachers with questions, but haven't heard back (I assume they are all super busy with testing this month). The letter said 10 hours of community service were required each year. What kind of community services did they do? Is it virtually an after-school club for volunteering?

Thanks!

My kid does this at gunston but before he was accepted he needed to 20 hours of community service (10 in school and 10 out) and get letters of recommendation from his teacher. I dont know how it works if you dont do that stuff first.

Thank you! Good to know other schools have it too. I looked at the middle school websites and couldn't find any information about NJHS.
I'm confused about whether she was just invited to apply or already selected (hasn't done any community service for sure). I guess I'll have to send a follow-up email next week. Thanks!
