Where to shop for tween girl?

Anonymous
Help please! I’ve normally shopped at Target and Old Navy for my kids. But DD9 is saying she is unfashionable and that the other (popular) girls wear cute clothes. I asked her just to compliment the girls’ clothes and ask them where they shop, but she says she can’t do that.

Apparently she says she should be wearing crop tops and tighter clothes (which I was never allowed to wear as a kid), but I don’t want her to look odd in comparison. Does anyone have specific shops, either in person or online where an uncool mom like me could take her to shop for on trend clothes?

CrewCuts, J Crew Factory, Gap Factory. I like to take her to National Harbor for a shopping day.

My 10 year old likes sporty clothes, so aerie and Dick's Sporting Goods plus the All in Motion stuff at Target and Old Navy Active. Marshalls had a bunch of cute athletic skorts and shorts this week.

Abercrombie kids or athleta girl is what my kid normally wears. She wears a lot of Nike too. She also likes things from Target, the art class or All in motion lines. She’s been asking for lululemon saying everyone gets their clothes from there but we haven’t purchased her anything from there.

Gap, tea collection, h and M. I have a DD9 as well and she doesn't do patterns much, no characters, only a few designs. Mainly plain shirts, darker colors, jeans or flared yoga pants. No crop tops for us or tight clothes either. But lots of styles are baggy and oversized now too.

Private school?

My 9 year old wears hand me down shorts and t-shirts mostly (H&M, Old Navy, Target), but asked for oversized sweatshirts over the winter and is asking for fitted tanks for the summer. She does not know or care about brands and she is definitely one of the "cool, sporty girls" at her school with a ton of friends.

Don't you know her friends? Can't you just look at what they're wearing and look for similar styles in stores? Or ask their moms?

When my 13 year old was recently at a mall birthday party with friends they went to Gap and Abercrombie (plus a bunch of skincare and makeup stores, but those were the only clothing stores).

American Eagle, Abercrombie or A. Kids.

Do you live near a Dillard’s?
Their copper key (dillards brand) is so perfect for tweens.

My Ms daughter (now 8th) is very thin and short. Kids clothes are babyish. Some teen clothes are pushing skinbaring limits that she / I don’t enjoy. So she wanted cool, grown up, teen looking, but available in her size.

Cooper key has options going down to really young sizes, but it looks grown up, not like excessive flowers or baby colors. So she had lots of size options for pants vs. shirts. Vs. Skirts.
