Yes Some people are obsessed with it because they think it will be a golden ticket for college.

Most families with kids at the school say that is not the case. But they and their kids are huge fans of it still because it is such a unique environment to get to go to a school made up of kids who are into and serious about school. For kids that its academic intensity is a good fit for it is a really great spot. So it inspires strong feelings.

Going to TJ means you get an A+ as a parent and you get to put a TJ sticker on the car to tell everyone about your A+ parenting skills.

People instantly let you cut into their lane when driving. It is very helpful during rush hour.

It's access to good teachers, solid curriculum, a like minded cohort, and amazing facilities. There is a planetarium, professionally outfitted labs, mentorship opportunities with great companies/research institutions, research librarian on staff, and teachers who hold you to a high standard. Some of the nonsense you find at base high schools doesn't happen here because kids are engaged and want to learn. Their focus is just different.

Mount Vernon parents get to put their student's high school bumper sticker on their car, but TJ parents shouldn't?

Does TJ send significantly more students to top research universities than other high schools in the region?

Yes. TJ has several students admitted to MIT every year as well as other prestigious Ivys. More than any other high school in FCPS.

There should be a separate TJ forum because AAP concerns are not TJ concerns and vice versa!

My child is at TJ and going to a HYPSM (see I like to brag too), but it is cringe to see a TJ or a HYPSM sticker on the car.

Your request is denied. TJ is an AAP high school option.

Posters have been thoughtfully including TJ in the subject line so that those not interested, like yourself, can easily skip the topic. Please take a moment to read subject line more carefully.
