People who are always late to zoom meetings

Anonymous
WHY. We have one person in our division who is often the host for zooms and they are always, always late. The worst was 5 minutes past start time.

Sorry, screaming into the void here. I just hate sitting in the waiting room past start time. They need to hand the hosting role over to someone else if they can't run a meeting on time.

Because their other meetings run over.

This is our issue with "Roger" who is key to our operations but gets booked to back to back to back Zooms.
We plunge ahead without him because we have stuff to get done.

Because our company only lets you book zoom meetings by the hour so I have them back to back with no time to go to the bathroom or get water. So I just ... have to go. If I have four meetings in a row, I WILL have to be late for one.

I would be annoyed as well, but 5 minutes is not a big deal.

You work for the same company yet you have to wait in a waiting room for Zoom meetings? I feel like that's odd.

OP here, she has literally never started a meeting on time and it's not a case of being booked back-to-back. Sometimes it's the first meeting of the day.

They're just chronically late for everything.

Thats because she is never at her desk. She is doing laundry or working in the garden. If she was at her desk, she would get the notice.

Becuase she has to pee after her prior meeting. Are you military? Because 5 minutes is no big deal.

How lame of you to assume she's not working in an office.

Sorry, I am more important than you and sometimes my previous meetings run over. You’ll get over it.

Yes. Everyone needs to update their settings or each meeting setting to allow anyone into the meeting. That way everyone can join and talk about the late people.

Also, key. Keep meetings on track. I end my meetings anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes early, depending. But I am uber prepared.

I don't see 5 minutes as that bad. If she is busy, it might just be a matter of being in other meetings.

Can you ask her to start/end meetings at :05 and :55? Some companies just do this as a matter of building in breaks.

You can also ask her at the next meeting to open the Zoom. I've done this. It's a pesky setting.

It drives me bonkers too. But I console myself in thinking if the meeting were in person, you wouldn’t even notice if it started a few minutes late.
