what is going to happen to teachers' salaries next year?

are teachers going to accept no step increase and no 7% raise since there is no money in the budget?

They’ll fire the useless central office staff and give the pay raises to the teachers.

What do you mean by “accept”? What other options are there once it’s decided?

I don’t think teachers will get 7%, but I also don’t think it will be zero.

It depends what other districts offer.

There are plenty of other options in surrounding counties, especially with the current teacher shortage. The 7% was supposed to bring FCPS teacher salaries closer to what other counties are paying their teachers, so if FCPS doesn't come through, there are better paying options nearby.

I think a few of the fired Feds might step up and transfer to teaching positions. This might help the shortage, for now.

Same thing that happens every time salaries are frozen and health insurance costs rise--morale drops, some people quit, those who stay are asked to do more with less.

They aren't making a final decision until the end of May (currently May 23), and teachers are only able to switch districts until June 15. Not many are going to be able to apply/interview/be hired in 3 weeks. The only ones who leave will be leaving teaching all together, and they are now fighting for non teaching jobs with every laid off fed.

I'm a teacher who is struggling to pay bills now that I have a DOGE'd spouse, so that 7% would be REALLY nice right now...but I'm predicting something more like 1.5-2%, if anything.

It looks like they recalculated the steps again, too! I'll be moving backwards from 10 to 9.

It looks like they recalculated the steps again, too! Correction: Stuck on the same step and hoping for an increase.

Yes, for some reason the collective bargaining people wanted a % raise for all instead of step increases. Step was never on the table this year.

Teachers were led astray by FCPS "bargaining" with teachers without involving the county executive or Board of Supervisors. Deals were struck that the county has no ability or intent to fund. Teachers will have to accept substantially less than 7% raises.

Don’t they get a step increase every year or no?
