UVA waitlist

Anonymous
I have no affiliation with this school, the noticed on CC waitlist thread that 2-3 mentioned getting off, including a counselor. Dean J is a member there and said no, that it could have been a reconsideration case. I always found her to be very upfront or transparent, but for some reason this seems odd. Are there really that many reconsiderations, obviously all wouldn’t be posting online so assuming more but don’t know of course.

What the heck is a reconsideration?

I forget exactly what she said, I’d have to reread but essentially something major changed from time of applying.

She talked about it in the q&a last week. Said that if someone's residency changes, their decision could change.

UVA is typically very transparent about said list, so I spike be inclined to believe her.

How would this happen? Not in VA, but in my state you need 12 months before in-state? So is this a student that moved semi-recently and then clicks that magic date whatever that is for VA?

Maybe people go rent a house for a couple of months in Alabama or something. Costs nothing and suddenly you’ve got geographic diversity.

Have you seen the residency questions? They are full of legalese and I can imagine some people filling them out incorrectly.

This. Dean J is one of the most transparent admissions officers out there. No reason to question what she's saying. I know folks want the waitlist to be moving but that just isn't the case yet.

I agree which is why I prefaced the question with they, just been following for several years my kids have been in school and this was first time I heard so many reconsideration cases online.

People have posted on here about kids checking the nonresident instead of resident box so may not be uncommon.

You are a complete idiot. You don’t increase your chances for admissions at UVA by moving out of state no matter what the state is.

I agree....Dean J/ UVA is very transparent. She event posted something on IG today saying again they have not gone to the waiting list but will post something online as soon as they do.

I also wouldn't believe people on online message boards. Many just enjoy stirring the pot.

The person on college confidential said the consultant or whatever actually had a kid who get deferred and accepted RD. How do they not know this isn’t the same as waitlist?
