DD has an offer to move to an ECNL-R team for U13. Prior to this, she has been a solid second-team player, playing in NCSL. Any suggestions on what we should know, ask, or consider before we accept this offer?
It looks like ECNL-R teams play maybe fewer games throughout the year (on a year-basis rather than season?), more tournaments, and obviously more practices per week. I understand from other threads that we should ask about roster size and how much playing time she might get. What else am I not thinking about? |
| if you look up the current team roster on "total global sports" (just google "total global sports" and "vienna 2010 girls ecnl" for instance--it should pop up, you can get a sense for the roster size this org carries. |
| Why do they play so few games per year in that league? I have always wondered. |
| I think this will be great for her! Enjoy the season! |
| More pricy, same quality as top level NCSL/EDP 3 and above. |
| Will give her access to a better platform, and who knows she can then keep getting better and end up in a ECNL/GA team. |
| I wouldn't worry too much about the amount of games depending on the type of club you are looking at. Lots of friendlies/intra-club games were scheduled for our club. |
| Parent Cliques, way overpriced, an ECNL hat. |
Sorry you're reaching now - there is no way you've seen an ECNL hat on an RL parent. Please name/shame if you have, but I have a feeling you're full of it. |

ECNL-R is not really that different from your previous second team experience. You'll play against some different teams, maybe play in some different tournaments. But it's still just kids playing soccer. Practices a few times a week. The same team dynamics. The same challenges. Maybe a little more expensive and traveling further for games and tournaments.
The biggest difference your DD will notice is integrating with a new set of players and all the fun dynamics that brings for 12 year old girls. And maybe adjusting to the new coach. |
ECNL-R is a money grab. Same applies to low end ECNL/GA. If you are not in a top GA or ECNL team, forget it. |
This comment is on every thread. Always. I guess it's 10 posts in so it's an improvement. |

Yup, guess what - if we're in this world $$$ will be spent. I'm sorry PP didn't like how that money was spent but not everything is a money grab. Go look at literally every other activity. |
Aren’t you just full of yourself. With that attitude why have your kid play at all if they won’t become pro next year. What a jerk. |
