ACPS admits ‘internal breakdown’ kept defending debate champs from state title

I saw that on a local post. Really a big screw up from the school for so many teachers and coaches to ignore the issue

Can you post an actual thought rather than a random link?

Why would the debate coach leave for spring break without making sure the team was registered? These poor kids.

Debate coach needs to be fired.

The AD is a prick of the highest order. My DS missed try outs (in his sport that he'd been playing for 7 years) because his grandfather DIED. The AD said too bad, so sad, there are no make ups. So this doesn't surprise me at all.

That attitude — too bad, so sad — is prevalent in so much of how ACPS staff and admin (rarely classroom teachers, I’ve noticed) interact with students and families. It’s very disheartening.

That is really bad, but seems kind of annoying of the organization too. They had completed 2/3 steps - did anyone reach out for a little reminder for the returning champions??

I am livid for them. I think the AD should be fired. These kids are so self motivated and responsible and ACPS has just failed them. Can't even get them a coach, can't get them a place to practice, can't turn in paperwork.

"Last year we didn’t have a debate coach, so we were basically working out of the closet of the orchestra room, which we are actually in right now."- absolutely ridiculous.

"What was it like to win against other teams that were funded and organized?" Why exactly can't ACPS fund and organize this?!

Absolutely not defending the school, but reminders were sent. Two. Those were also ignored.

VHSL also terrible, give the kids a break under circumstances and let them compete.

AD Parker really collecting paychecks for not working. Useless.
