Springbrook athletics student safety concern

Anonymous
My child came home today and said that other students were saying that a coach was having a sexual relationship with a student athlete. Has anyone heard anything about this? Have I missed a communication about this from the school?

Would not be surprised if this is being covered up based on the other Springbrook thread. Any more info, like what team? This is pretty vague

Contact the parents coalition. They track these cases.

You need to keep listening, OP. There have been multiple scandals in MCPS schools over the years, and every time, MCPS and parents involved in the team, have sought to downplay or ignore these claims, in order not to rock the boat, and preserve coaches they see as giving their kids a leg up for college admissions. It could be serious.

Here is the WaPo article about the Walt Whitman sex abuse scandal that spanned more than 20 years. The rowing coach groomed female victims and then had sexual relationships with them. Parents turned a blind eye for YEARS.

Not sure why you're gossiping here instead of calling CPS to report directly.

Call the police, not cps. CPS is for where kids live.

Don't spread your ignorance.

Child Protective Services (CPS) can be contacted to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect, including physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and medical neglect. Reporting can involve witnessing or suspecting maltreatment, such as physical injuries, neglect, or concerning behaviors.

Correct, but if this is hearsay, what can CPS do?

Investigate the report.

Correct. Always report. CPS will investigate, no penalty if you're wrong, but your duty is to report.

If you’re a mandatory reporter you’re required to call it in to CPS.

Given Principal Valentine's terrible leadership, I'm not surprised there are other scandals and bad news to be uncovered at Springbrook.
