What dessert to buy from WF/Wegmans/Balducci's

Anonymous
Hosting an event for about 15-20 adults and looking for rec for fan favorites, preferably from these stores.
So far, I'm pretty set on at least a WF Chantilly Cake and a Balducci's Dolly Sin Cake.
Anything else you love?

None of them. Our go to is Randolf’s chocolate mousse cake.

I think the budget is not unlimited. A 12" Randolf's cake is $100

Wegmans used to have a chocolate bomb cake that is delightful though I haven’t seen it in a while.

Whole Foods sometimes has had apple tarts and pear tarts — both are delicious and have been very well received. The fresh berry tarts are also very good.

I love the WF Chantilly cake. They didn't have one in the other day and I was in a hurry and got the strawberry shortcake and it was very good.

And I agree with the PP that their tarts are very good. I prefer the fresh berry tart, especially since it is so pretty. During holiday seasons they make large tarts. If that is of interest, I bet you could get them to make you one.

I swear by the Wegman's desserts, especially tarts and cakes. NOT the cannoli tray but that's only because I hate cannolis. People seem to like them.

What cake do you like? I checked their website and see mostly a typical white /chocolate cake with frosting and option for sprinkles. (But we love their canolli).

I happened to see a comparison and the Chantilly is about 2x the calories of the strawberry shortcake. Doesn’t affect my choice but that’s a big difference for a slice of cake.

Balducci's Dolly Sin Cake.

We order this at the holidays and everyone loves it.

The Strawberry Cake is also very good, and very different than the rich choc cake.

I have never had a good cake from balducci’s. They all look good and taste awful. I’ve tried several. We like their rainbow cake cookies okay and I love the wevmans chocolate chip cookies. I think the only wegmans cake I’ve had was Boston crème which was just okay … but I would think they would probably do a good job with something like coconut cake.

The WF fruit tart is pretty good, I agree.

Have you tried Balducci’s Dolly Sin. It’s a death by chocolate cake but the one dessert that even the skinny moms will take a sliver of. It’s decadent and delicious. Weirdly we’re finding wegmans choc chip a little too sweet or soft, not sure but no longer a family fave.

Here's your Wegman's cake expert.

Carrot cake, Belgian choc mousse cake, and whatever the half-sphere choc smallish thing is called are all wonderful. Their choc cake w choc frosting is also very good -- not generic, but I've had it less than 10x so am still developing my expertise.

thanks for these recommendations. I'm going to see if I can find a slice of the carrot and Belgian cakes before I buy a whole. Website says the chocolate dome "may not be available" so we'll see

I love Wegman’s cheesecake. I’d say mix and match.
