Enrollment out of boundary

Anonymous
Has anybody been successful in seeking a compassionate enrollment in a school not for reasons listed on FCPS site (language, etc)?

Essentially, if DOGE initiated workforce firings necessitated a pause in home search/offers - but now the search is back on, but temporarily living with other family?

If you're not in Fairfax county, there's not a chance it will happen. Not even teachers residing out of the county are able to have their kids attend school here. Saying "we're planning to live in Fairfax county" would be used by anyone who wanted into the schools without living here.

Wait - where are you living now? Have you been living with other family this whole time?

If you are still "searching" it is doubtful you would get a reassignment. Maybe, if you have a lease or an accepted offer.

I have seen students stay in a school they were already enrolled in -after their family moved out of the boundary (but still in county) - for one year.

For my son’s kindergarten registration they require a deed or lease.

Do you have a son who is a good football player? Otherwise, no, this is not allowed.

The school board believes all Fairfax schools are the same, so as long as you are in the county, it’s hard to imagine you getting on their radar.

What do they say, something like: it is better to seek forgiveness than ask permission?
