Who plans the talent show at your DCPS elementary?

Anonymous
Our school may not have a talent show this year due to no one volunteering to plan it.
Personally, I feel sad for the kids as this was a joyous activity in years past.

I am trying to figure out if most DCPS elementary schools hold talent shows and if they do, who is leading the event.

The music teacher does all our shows.

Offer to take the lead in planning.

+1 Stop looking for someone else to rope into planning it.

This is OP. I understand your point, yet not helpful. I am just curious as if it is parent led vs teacher/admin led.

Are most talent shows held at DCPS Elementary schools planned by the school or by the PTA/PTO/parent volunteer/Booster club etic?

The talent show at our elementary is primarily teacher-led (combo of performing arts teacher and music teacher with assists from others as they have time and interest).

But we are at a Title 1 school where a lot of the kids don't have parents who have the time or ability to do something like that anyway. The teachers attracted to our school know going in that they might be doing things that would be run by a PTO at a wealthier school and are okay with that (in fact it's usually part of what draws them to the school). Also the school's Title 1 status helps them obtain extra funds to pay teachers for after school activities like talent show rehearsals, and also to help sponsor events like that (not necessarily Title 1 money, but they often get grants and donations from non profit orgs or businesses specifically because they are Title 1 so the money is guaranteed to help a high percentage of at risk/FARMs kids).

We don't have a talent show. No school plays. Only 2 concerts led by the music teacher.

DCPS talent show was organized by parents and is more of just a free-for-all show.

Charter middle talent show organized by the school and involved auditions, only a bunch of performances, and awards for the best.

Wondering if our kids are at the same school. Ours is run by performing arts teacher who is amazing but puts in a lot of time afterschool all year to lead various performances including a talent show. But as PP said it’s Title 1 which comes with money to pay her.

Ours was run by a parent.

Combo of music teacher and parent volunteers. Also a few MSers getting service hours.

MCPS parent here - PTA volunteers planned it. Downsized eventually to just fifth grade.
