Discouraged because I didn’t lose as much weight as I had hoped before vacation

Anonymous
This is so petty and entitled, but I’m feeling really discouraged and like there is a black cloud hovering over my vacation. I’m feeling a little more fit and confident, but nowhere near where I was going to be. I don’t know exactly what I’m asking for here, just some advice on how to stop being angry at myself and ruining a vacation that I’ve been looking forward to for months, just because I’m not 10lb “skinnier”.

Nobody cares how fat you are except you. Don’t let yourself ruin your vacation.

You’ll never see these people again.

But I do care, that’s the whole point!

Why is your vacation “ruined” because you aren’t 10 pounds lighter?

This is a great question for chat GPT, I’m not kidding. You can tell it your therapy style preference.

This is a very good indicator that you were losing weight for all the wrong reasons.

Every day is a new day. I struggle with weight too.
I used to have a bad day or a bad meal and just give up.
Now I remind myself that one bad meal or a few extra lbs doesn’t mean give up. Be happy where you’re at and get right back into it. Don’t give up.

Being angry will mean you have the 10 lbs AND you don’t enjoy your vacation as much. Deciding to let it go for now will mean you have the 10 lbs AND you enjoy the hell out of your vacation.

Reframe, OP!

Just be glad your child isn’t dying of cancer and enjoy your vacation.

I feel you, OP. I always set a goal for weight loss for vacations and historically never reach it. It does cast a bit of a cloud over the trip, though I still have a good time. What can I say? There’s no balm for this - it doesn’t feel good to fail at something.

I felt that way before a trip to Hawaii many years ago. When I look back at the pictures, I can’t believe I let myself feel bad about myself. Think big picture. Your weight (as is) is definitely not the most important thing about you and the way you look. Enjoy vacation!

Diuretics will help you drop 5 lbs overnight.

When you get there, just drink water, alcohol (non sugary drinks) and meat. You will drop weight fast.

Stop being so vain.

It is so self-sabotaging to let this impact your vacation. Let it go. Besides, if you only have 10 lbs to worry about, you already look great.
