We had an old, handed down iPad that we turned on before long flights and downloaded prime shows for our kids to watch on the plane. It finally died. I’d like to get a basic tablet for the same purpose but haven’t shopped for any devices aside from phones in years. Is there something less expensive than an IPad that would do the trick? |
We use my old phone for plane rides, so that’s another option |
Fire tablets from Amazon. |
Just post on your local buy nothing group that you are looking for a used tablet. |
NP. We tried a Fire first, it was a piece of junk. Didn't even work for a year. We had much better luck with Onn. tablets. Cheap and going strong for several years now. https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-8-Tablet-32GB-2024-Model-Pearl/5166126510?wl13=3035&selectedSellerId=0&wmlspartner=wlpa&gStoreCode=3035&gQT=1 |
Just buy another old iPad. A few years old should work fine. |
DP but I’d prefer a used iPad over a new, cheap/crappy tablet any day |
We've been using ours for years (also just to download and watch shows for travel). They are clunky but work. |
We have used the fire tablets for our kids, and they are going strong almost three years in. If you get the kids version, it has a 12 month warranty. My DH hates anything apple and he has some type of Samsung tablet that seems to work well. The nice thing about non-ipads is that you can buy a memory card for like $10 and double the memory of your baseline ipad.
I use an iphone and still have my 1st gen ipad on its very last legs (basically it's our back up device with a couple movies and a few simple games in case the kids forget to charge their device or we need a white noise machine). I do think the apple tech is most straightforward, but it's also good for kids to have to interact with technology in a way that requires maybe a little more problem solving/tech understanding. |
Hard to beat an older iPad for that use.
Maybe buy a refurbished older model iPad from Amazon or Apple? |
swappa.com has older iPads (and other tech). I've made several purchases through the site without issue. |
