Obituary for the United States of America

https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/us-democracy-dies-trump-236-years-20292708.php

The American democratic republic has died. It was 236 years old
The U.S. is survived by a country of the same name, the United States of America, now a presidential dictatorship.

This magazine cover isn't exactly an obituary but it shows a wounded eagle, the symbol of America. MAGA acts likes everything is normal, but the rest of us can see that there is NOTHING normal about this administration.

Typically hyperbolic.

And what will folks say if Trump succeeds?

Succeeds at what? Ruining the economy for his billionaire friends? Stomping on the constitution? Or do you mean renaming the Gulf of Mexico?

It is horrible.

Accurate. And sad.

I really appreciate the way this is written in a neutral tone, describing what's happening in/tp the US in the same terms we'd use to describe this happening in other countries. We haven't been able to do that because of our own arrogance.

He won't. He is mentally unbalanced and his staff are incompetent sycophants. He has tanked the economy in less than 100 days.

You're clueless and out of touch.

WW1 and WW2 did contribute to a more powerful Federal Government than may have been intended but 95% of our people are still loving and decent people and we shouldn't let two awful presidents and two awful political parties bring us to point of division. Ignore he hate. Love all.

I take it that you voted for a malignant narcissist who tried to overturn an election and then freed 1,600 criminals. And then he did a bunch of other horrific stuff in the last 100 days. So that's who you support? Nice one. Thanks for screwing it up for the rest of us.

Pathetic. It’s bad enough that the PP and his ilk are one issue voters, but somehow they find rock bottom and keep digging because their one issue is being curated by a foreign nation illegally lobbying on U.S. soil. Treasonous, all of them.

Trump is already kind of flaming out. Calm down.

This is the sort of post that makes me think Democrats are actually enjoying Trump 2.0. How else could journalists crank out poorly written hysteria and get clicks?

reminds me of when I was a kid in the 70's and people were taking about the population explosion , how it will spell doom for the planet. And not the DCUM/WAPO crowd is scared of a population decrease.

wow. no wonder no one believes MSM any more. bunch of gotcha journalism by Ivy League history majors.

In the very unlikely event that Trump
“Succeeds” at creating a golden age for America, I’ll acknowledge it.

There is zero evidence that we are moving in the direction. The swamp is getting swampier, the economy is tanking, our allies no longer trust us, DOGE will cost the U.S. more than it is saving, investors are fleeing both the dollar and U.S. debt. Just as Republicans prepare to pass “one big beautiful bill” that will add trillions more to the debt.

We’re only 100 days in and his own actions are making it harder to achieve his goals.
