ISO Residential Treatment Facility for substance abuse

Anonymous
DC is in high school, vaping (mostly in school), and is positive for THC every time DC is tested for THC. It has been impossible to get DC to an outpatient intense program for substance abuse, refuses therapy. ISO a residential treatment program. Thank you.

Are they willing to go to residential treatment? Because the options if they are not willing will all be out of state.

What does their doctor say? If it’s THC alone I might look for a therapeutic school rather than rehab-while thc is terrible for teens it doesn’t require “rehab” the same way alcohol, cocaine, or opiates would (because it’s not physiologically addictive nor subject to dangerous withdrawal) and sometimes kids end up coming away with NEW substances they use ( or at the very least new friends who use them.)

We heard really great things about an Ascend program short term program, which was in Southern California. I don't have experience with Crossroads short term program (Ogden Utah), but their long term program is amazing (also in Ogden). Is THC the only problem? If not willing to go, a wilderness program might make sense as a first stop

So far, only positive for THC. Definitely interested in learning about therapeutic schools because DC is struggling with school and IEP isn’t helping despite several meetings with the school.

OP no to all of this.

Crossroads is private and zero transparency.

Wilderness programs are same.

Ask qualified medical professionals.

My kid went to wilderness program. It was life changing in a good way. There are good ones. You need to use a consultant to find the good ones.

"Crossroads is private and has zero transparency"

That's like saying Sidwell is private and has zero transparency or any privately owned hospital is private and has zero transparency.

Anyway, check all the programs I mentioned out. Sounds like there is a lot going on, and you'll want to talk to a few people. I definitely think talking to medical professionals is also a good idea.
