| My 13 year old son plays tennis here and there, in a totally not intense fashion. He grew 6 inches since we bought him a kid racquet 2 years ago, and now needs an adult racquet. It does not need to be fancy since it’s just for recreational use, but I would like it to be sized appropriately. What in person store in MoCo or Upper NW will have something moderately priced but decent? The Honda of tennis racquets. |

Does he do clinics? His best bet is to try a bunch of racquets out (borrow from his friends or coach) to see what he likes and how he hits with them. As he progresses in the game he will want a firmer racquet for harder hitting. Also, if he does tournament play, he will want two identical racquets. I think my son went through three pair sets during high school. Another consideration is the strings and how tightly they are strung. My other son who played in recreationally in college liked the Japanese brand, Yonex.
If he doesn’t play much at all go to tennis warehouse . com and buy a best seller in your price range. It should suffice. |
| Dick's Sporting Goods has a decent selection |
| Target |
| Thank you! |
+1, and there's a guy at the Dick's on South Dakota Ave NE in DC who is pretty knowledgeable and can help. I can't remember his name, but she also plays and coaches tennis. |
| If you're willing to mail order, I'd call Tennis Warehouse and ask for their advice. |
Their selection is largely very low end racquets and employees are usually clueless. Check out Tennis Warehouse or Tennis Express online stores. |
Even worse than Dick’s. Only use target if you want the lowest end. |
