I'm hosting a mid-day, outdoor bbq. I'm thinking of serving just beer, water, and sodas - no wine. Many of my friends are wine drinkers, but in the past when I've hosted daytime events, they didn't drink much wine. Because this event isn't at our house, it would be easier to just bring coolers of drinks and not have to worry about wine glasses etc.
What do you think? Would you be looking around for the wine, or would beer and soda suffice? |
| Serve whatever you think is appropriate-some folks will probably show up with a bottle of wine anyway, so if they want wine, they can drink that. |
I agree. We are big wine drinkers, so we usually have some bottles around if anyone really wants some. But people often bring a bottle and we just leave out a corkscrew. For BBQs and the like, we do as you're doing and try to keep it simple with beer, sodas and water. Oh, and don't underestimate the popularity of lemonade in a large cooler -- it's always the first to go! |
| I think beer is definitely the more expected mid-day, out door bbq drink so you should be fine. I would never expect wine at a bbq anyway. |
| I think you could have a couple bottles of white wine in the cooler (get something with a screw top to make it easier). No need for wine glasses at a BBQ -- just have plastic cups of some sort. |
| I would be bummed if I showed up and there was only beer. |
| I would totally be searching for the wine as I do not like beer. |
Agree. I don't like beer, so I would be looking for wine if I wanted an alcoholic drink. (I actually usually don't drink anything at midday events, but I do always expect to see it there.) |
| I also don't like beer, but I wouldn't be bummed if there was no wine. I can go to a party and not drink. In fact, if I were the one hosting an afternoon BBQ away from home, I still wouldn't serve wine if it cut down on how much stuff I had to lug. Keep it simple! |
+1 to these two PPs. Alcohol not necessary at an event. But if you're going to have beer, a bottle or two of wine wouldn't hurt. And at an outdoor BBQ, I'd expect to be drinking it out of a plastic glass -- no worries! |
| I'd serve wine. I don't drink beer that often, and if someone is only serving beer, I wonder why they are not also serving wine. Yes on plastic cups, too! Have fun! |
| I wouldn't serve it. I prefer wine to beer but not in the afternoon and not with BBQ. |
| I hate beer and would not drink it - however I would never expect anything and will drink water or soda. It is so rude to expect to be served anything specific. I was just at a party this weekend that did that and was happy to drink water (and I am a huge wine drinker). |
| Agree with 20:07. Don't stress! |
