Worried About the Lapse in Food/Milk Inspections

My husband is a gastric cancer survivor and has a very fragile digestive system and immune system. The fact that the FDA and whatever other agencies are involved will not be doing milk or food inspections scares the crap out of me. Especially with the number of e coli outbreaks, listeria outbreaks, etc, that seem to be rising over these past years. I'm calling my congressional members like I've been doing with everything else. Is anyone else calling over this? I think we need to flood their lines on this.

I understand the concern and I think it is worrisome, but it’s not high on my priority list of bad things that happening now.

I think there is reason to be concerned. I have food allergies and am worried that the allergen labeling laws will be removed.

I’m sorry OP. I have young kids including a toddler who loves milk. It is scary. We had built so many systems to keep Americans safe but tore them down because some billionaires said Feds are useless and people believed them. Too bad the rest of us have to suffer the consequences with them.

They’re not cutting out all inspections, it’s cutting the lab verification program that makes sure labs are detecting contamination. Obviously that is not ideal, but milk and foods are still tested.
It also sounds like they hired back some scientists. It’s paywalled so I don’t know details.

Nothing this administration does is good for the health of anyone on the planet. The GOP eat food and breathe air and drink water too. I don't get it. They want to fill their bodies and those of their loved ones with pollutants? Or are they just in "it won't affect me" denial?

I agree. We aren't planning to drink cows milk until this is rectified OP.

All the communications people at FDA have been RiFed, so it's not like the public is going. To be informed anyhow.

Guys, the important part is that Elon Musk makes billions of dollars for saving taxpayers millions. All we have to sacrifice is our health and safety. How can he buy elections without his welfare? He can’t even sell his garbage cars these days. Won’t you think of Elon’s money?

They should change some of these. The sesame allergen law is so ridiculous companies started adding sesame to their products rather than comply.

No cows milk, no meat, no eggs. Concerned about raw vegs and pet food, so may avoid commercial romaine and scallions, find locally grown.

Unfortunately this. I feel for you, OP. And what I have done is resumed a milk delivery from a local farm, which I trust (the personal trust is critical because there is no more "trust but verify"). I had stopped delivery a couple of years ago to save money but feel like the money is very well-spent now.

And I am truly grateful that you are calling representatives on this issue. We have to divide and conquer. For me, there are other issues that literally keep me up at night.

I can personally attest to the fact that this is problematic - I was on a state board and we had a disciplinary case involving a lab that was falsifying test results.

Not a problem. We'll have more Chinese-quality milk, but when we have American made milk with lead mixed in, the corporations that do it won't be punished because FREEDOM.
