Federal judge said she will not approve NCAA antitrust settlement because of roster caps. She sent the parties away to renegotiate that provision or go to trial.
https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-house-settlement-3fbd33cc14eec0d39c34d6df67d54ddb Good chance roster caps are dead. Either they get negotiated away or this case goes to trial and there is no way they would be included in any relief. Chance they leave the caps and grandfather them in but I doubt that will pass with this judge. |
| Just do away with NCAA. Turn the popular sports into semi-pro, the rest of the sports = school club teams. Drama done. |
Great -- that is another thread. |
Even the women's pro teams don't make enough to live off of. So now you think kids will forgo college to make nothing? That's not happening. |
| Hahahaha NCAA + colleges are screwed |
You realize that all around the world there are passionate people chasing a dream and making it work for them however that may be right? Even if that means working another job to pay for that. |
| Roster limits will be in place, but it will be grandfathered in. |
Agree, this seems the most likely compromise. However, still will be a mess. I have a kid who was cut 6w ago, many teammates have committed (some signed) to other teams already. Our team has also taken kids out of the portal. The judge basically said coaches shouldn't have done that and now they have to figure it out/make it right or she's not signing off. |
Yes -- the NCAA will want the grandfather in -- but given what is going on -- I doubt they can get that and the NCAA will not risk trial. I think it will either be the elimination of the caps or some method of going over the caps for any reason for like 5 years. Maybe an extra 5 slots; maybe more. |
| A new class action lawsuit will be filed by all the college players who were prematurely cut. I wonder if all the verbal commits who were de-committed could join in? |
Can someone guess how this will affect 2027s? 2026s even. I have 2027, I don't think this is good news for him either way. How do you undo all the cutting college did? That ship as sailed. Will colleges suddenly add more spots in like October? Very confused how this will play out. |
| I guess technically you could add up to the number of carry over players you have on this year’s roster because they would all be “grandfathered” against any roster cap. |
| I think this is good news for college soccer 2027+ recruits. More spots equals more opportunity for HS players in particular who are getting squeezed out at the moment by the transfer portal AND roster caps. Portal not going away but maybe coaches more likely to throw a bone to more HS players? |
| On the girls side, international players have been taking more and more college roster spots each year and I believe that increasing trend will continue. |
I do not think this is likely. Not with the current administration. |
