Holy sh#t, why is this so expensive? $210 to play with Hot Wheels for six one-hour sessions on top of aftercare tuition?
They came to our school this year and the whole thing feels like a scam. |
Yes and I agree! |
We have it. It’s expensive, but the teachers tend to be really good. I wouldn’t do hot wheels. Instead we sign up for classes that my kid might take on the weekends that would be equally or around the same price, and now I don’t have to drive |
We have them. I also have sticker shock and a couple classes have been disappointing but several have been excellent and given my kid a chance to try sports or activities they wouldn’t otherwise. We just do 1 per session. |
It is crazy expensive. And yes, a few of the classes have been good, but there have also been a few duds--and I mean, sitting the kids in front of a screen instead of doing the paid activity because it "was the last session of the term" bad. No advice, just solidarity. We are definitely being overcharged for on-site "enrichment." |
OP here: There's a number of kids we know who do Active Play 3-4 days per week on top of the aftercare tuition. With four Active Play sessions during the school year, those kids are doing 12-16 classes at an average of $225 each, or $3000-3600 for one kid for the entire school year. Active Play is easily clearing $300,000 in revenue at our school alone this year. It's crazy. |
OP here: we signed up for session 1 in the fall. Active Play canceled two of the three classes my kid really wanted to try; the class he did was just OK. We did one class in session 2 and it was a total dud. Skipped session 3 completely only to find that many of our kid's friends in regular after care are doing Active Play for 3-4 days per week. We can easily afford Active Play, but it really feels like it segregates the kids during aftercare. |
Our school pto funds scholarships for kids who want to do active play. If segregation is your concern you might want to raise this as an idea |
Yep, same here. Been sticking to one class per session because the cost (for what you get, plus aftercare) is exorbitant, but I'm also dealing with my kid feeling a bit left out since some of their friends are taking multiple classes. |
