How do I find a nanny?

Anonymous
How does one go about finding a nanny for an infant? I have a 4 month old, and I am in need of childcare 5 days a week. It seems like such a delicate task. I have asked some families how they found their great nannies, but everyone just says she was referred by a friend.

Can anyone tell me where to start? Thanks so much for any advice.

If you are using this site in your phone, scroll down to top of screen, click the button with the three horizontal lines at top right. Then pull down to “Nanny forums” and go ask your question in the nanny section of the site. I think you’ll get tons of leads!

You go to the Nanny tree and pluck off the one you think is best.

Ideally if you can get a good referral, that is usually the best way in my opinion.
Maybe you can ask around some more, perhaps you can also get the word out that you are looking for a Nanny for your baby.

If you can afford to do so - I would also try a very reputable local Nanny agency.
A Nanny employed by an agency has usually been properly vetted, I.e., background checked, references, CPR/First Aid certified, etc.

You can also try a childcare website such as Care.com or Sittercity.com but I would advise strong caution ⚠️ using these since anyone can go on these websites + call themselves a professional Nanny.

I wish you only the best in your search OP! 👍🏽

What is the purpose of your response PP??

Are you really that bored today?

In my area there are Facebook groups where Nannies post resumes or families recommend their former caregivers. I would search for local Facebook groups.

The best nannies, at least in DC, come from the neighborhood list servs. What you want is the posts from families who no longer need their nanny (cause they’re moving or the kids are starting school or something), rather than the posts from nannies themselves.

There must be over 100 threads on DCUM on how to find a nanny not to mention an entire section devoted to nannies!

Hey there, did you already find a nanny? I am a NCS and a nanny as well. I have extensive experience as a nanny and I've been an NCS now for 5 years. I have great references ( they will vouch that you will have peace of mind when your baby is in my care and more ). I'd love to talk to you more if you're still in the market for one.
Thank you and all the best!
