Cant gain weight

Anonymous
I'm almost 5'6 125-128ish pounds, have been eating a lot recently but keep dropped or staying under 130. I don't have a fast metabolism because I used to gain weight but now no matter what I eat, I barely gain. Friends/Family keep asking me if I'm sick or why I'm so skinny even though my weight is healthy but it is because of my body shape. I wanna gain some for my self cause I feel too thin. Anyone ever death with this before?

Do you have worms?

Have you had blood work done recently? Unexplained weight loss or inability to gain weight can be a warning flag for stomach conditions or more serious issues.

How old are you? I know a couple of people that developed "juvenile" diabetes in their 20s and it caused weight loss like this. It can also be a sign of other serious issues -- you should definitely get a full workup.

This is an unusual change. I would check with my doctor. (If it had been a lifelong issue, I wouldn't be concerned.)

Op: I don't go to the doctor because the fact I might get diagnosed with something worries me. Last time I went was about 3 yrs ago and everything was okay on my blood work and I don't have stomach issues or worms. I'm 24.

I would be more worried about NOT being diagnosed with something that's easily treatable. Even if you are diagnosed, you don't have to accept any treatment you don't think will benefit you.

And from your description, it sounds like your unexplained weight lost occurred well after your last visit 3 years ago.

Please go to the doctor. Either diabetes or hyperthyroidism can be very serious/fatal if untreated.

You are at an ideal weight OP, but here in the US where two thirds of adults are overweight or obese, it might not feel like it.

Get bloodwork by all means, if you're wondering why you're not gaining when you're eating more. The probability that you have an illness is quite low: perhaps you're exercising more than before, without realizing it, or perhaps you're eating more but the extra isn't very caloric.

I come from an underweight family. My son is 5'5" and barely 100lbs. My mother is skeletal. I'm the normal weight person at 5'4" and 115lbs. None of us can gain easily. We're just fine the way we are. It's genetic.

There it is. Enjoy your ability to eat junk and not balloon up while it lasts.

If you want to gain muscle, then eat more red meat and lift weights is all there is to it.

At 24, that seems unlikely.

Most women are diagnosed with hyperthyroidism around 30 years old. So no unheard of at all to possibly have it at her age. If she has big eyes like Aubrey Plaza and gets hot easily and hot flashes, high heart rate, always anxious, irregular periods, etc. then she might want to get her thyroid checked out by an Endocrinologist.

Just go to the doctor OP. Better safe than sorry.

If it's hyperthyroidism, then definitely better safe than sorry OP. If you wait, it could be worse.

I'm thinking you are just eating like a bird though. Look up symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and if you don't have them, then eat more calorie dense foods like fatty meats, cream, butter, etc.
