Doing a month long rental, remote working! between these two choices with my DH. Which would you choose? Cost is the same at both ! Kids 9,11

DCUM hates Florida so be prepared for that.

These are opposite choices. Only you know if you want to roast and go to the beach to swim in bathwater, or wear sweaters at night in July.

Telluride hands down.

+1. But I dislike super hot and humid weather even with a beach.

I guess Telluride but I'd really want Maine.

Telluride is a great town- will be beautiful there in the summer...

My kids would prefer the beach and if I am working, I want my kids happy.

I grew up in Florida and, avoid Florida in July and August.

Florida in the summer is a nonstarter.

The nice thing about Seaside is that the 9 and 11 yo could go off on their own to stores and restaurants while you are working. They may find some friends they can roam around with for a month. My kids would get bored of the beach every day, but ymmv. I also don't think I could do my job sitting on the beach - I'd really need to be inside- and I would want to supervise 9 and 11 yo at the ocean.

My family has been going to Seaside every summer since the 1980's when the first cottages were built on Rosewalk. Our current family reunions there include two kids about the same age as yours.
Notes: if you're wanting to use the Seaside beach proper, you'll probably want to rent their chairs and umbrellas. You will need to supervise your kids too. There are no lifeguards. There are shark sightings, rip currents, etc. A flag system is enforced. I would not just send your young kids out the door to the beach unsupervised (we don't). I've actually never seen unsupervised kids on the Seaside beach who were under about 16 yo but that's just my experience. In the old days, the beauty of Seaside was that it was a friendly front porch community where kids found friends easily and parents looked out for each other's kids. These days, there are many more short-term visitors (1 week or less) and finding friends to hang out with isn't as easy.
We love it there year round, but the heat in July is brutal. The crowds and traffic in the peak months have become pretty difficult too. My favorite months in Seaside are May and October.
For July, I would choose Telluride. There's a cute Fourth of July parade there every year.

I love Seaside (like a pp, I grew up going there every summer when it was first established) and would pick it over telluride any day. But our family doesn’t mind heat or humidity and we never get tired of the beach or pool. Some ppl (as evidenced in this thread alone!) do not share that love of the beach and would get bored. And some ppl also can’t handle/don’t like extreme heat and humidity which it will certainly be in FL in July. And before someone comes in to say that it’s just as hot and humid in DC in the summer as it is in FL…no, you’re just flat out wrong. At least you get some beach breezes in FL but no, FL in July is hotter and more humid than DC ever gets so keep that in mind.

Telluride. I will always pick mountains over the beach. I hate heat and humidity, and avoid all things Florida.

Your poor kids will be so bored while you are working.
