| My DC will be in 8th grade next year and wants to apply to some of the public magnets. Are standardized test scores required as part of the application process? They’ve been in private since K so they haven’t taken any of the MCPS standardized tests. |
| Yes, but there's a wide variety of accepted tests. |
Are they listed somewhere? |

Last year's info: "Criteria-based programs require essays and testing. You can see all of the components of the application using the link on the website titled: Current Grade 8 High School Application Preview. Families can select the vendor of their choosing to administer one of the accepted assessments. If you need assistance please contact dccaps@mcpsmd.org.
Scan your student’s 7th grade report card or transcript so it can be uploaded to the application. You may include any 8th grade report cards or transcripts you have by the November 1, 2024 deadline. A score report from an external achievement or cognitive assessment from 7th or 8th grade is required. A list of accepted assessments: NWEA MAP, i-Ready, Performance Series, Scantron, Iowa Assessments, CTP, MCAP/PARCC or other state testing, WISC, Woodcock-Johnson, SSAT, CogAT, OLSAT or InView." https://docs.google.com/document/d/18eyY8oAYQEWjAl26_D4H0q9xCe9YJeI8OCkI8D1lz5I/preview?pli=1&tab=t.0 (accessed via the link for "directions for private and home schooled students" at https://inte.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/specialprograms/high/ ) When we went through this for my current 10th grader who attended a private middle school, she was able to take an online MAP test that qualified. The folks at DCCAP were very helpful in explaining the process and our options. Email DCCAPS@mcpsmd.org or call 240-740-7800 |
| This is OP (other poster who asked wasn’t me). Thank you so much for this helpful info!! |
Poolesville accepted the "scantron" standardized test results that Washington archdiocese provides in their elementary and middle schools. |
