how to use AI to plan a vacation

I’ve never purposefully used AI to plan a vacation. How do I go about doing this? Thanks for advice, from a young boomer

I’ve used ChatGPT for itinerary planning with success.

Keep in mind that it’s basically pulling itineraries from travel blogs and recombining them. It won’t necessarily check that specific things are open on specific days of the week, you have to check all that. It’s good for getting ideas but it’s not magic.

yes, and most of the itineraries I have seen are very aggressive in terms of timing between things. It also doesn't really include thinking about things like logistics, rest time, etc.

It's quite literally using stuff other people have written to manufacture something that looks similar.

After looking into it a bit, I have found you would spend as much time confirming the accuracy of the output to just reading and checking things yourself.

Agree with the above - I found it useful as a starting point for itineraries, but it wasn't wildly different than if I'd spent the time googling travel blogs and looking at tripadvisor. I've also asked it for packing lists, but mostly to validate ones I was already working on or reusing from previous trips and make sure there wasn't something I hadn't thought of.

I love ChatGPT for travel itineraries. It’s as good as your questions. If you think the results do t have enough down time (for example), then you say “give me another 7 day itinerary to Rome and Florence but add extra time for relaxing. Include specific restaurants and hotels that work for a family of 4 with adventurous eaters but a peanut allergy”. Or whatever. It’s amazing. Yes, you need to verify but you would anyway when you go to book thinks.

I had AI create me one. While it was helpful for timing, all the hotels it suggested were sold out. I spend a lot of time chasing my tail.

Glad you are wasting all that energy and water because you are too lazy to browse the internet or look at a guide book

You can start with it, but I found that most of them are not good enough to recommend something very specific.

I work in the travel industry. We know that better AI is coming, but it’s not here quite yet.

I prefer to use TripAdvisor forums for a specific city or location, or Reddit.

Well, I asked for good vegetarian restaurants in DC and it recommended Founding Farmers, so....
