Did you 5th grader enjoy outdoor lab overnight?

We are not a camping family and I’m not sure my kid will enjoy it. It’s also on a Monday night and I’ve heard they don’t sleep at all.

You aren't meant to enjoy everything. Let your kid try it out - at least they will know what it is like to sleep outside.

Yes, loved it. We do camp, but that overnight is hardly "camping". Your kid will have a great time.

They don't sleep and teachers know it.

It's a horrible night for parent chaperones. No one gets any sleep at all.

I would say it is camping… they are in a tent on a camp pad with a sleeping bag.

Anyway, we are a camping family, and my kid did enjoy it, but did complain that it was hard to get any sleep.

Even if camping isn’t their thing, I assure you they will feel left out if you don’t send them. It’s one night and they will survive.

My kid went when it was below 20 degrees outside, so they slept in the animal lab instead of outside. Or more accurately, they *didn't sleep* all night in the animal lab.

My kid had a great time.

This sounds much better.

My kid liked it but got a tick bite. Check your kids when they get back!

I have heard stories about kids coming back covered in ticks too! APS really should do a better job keeping kids protected if they want to continue outdoor lab.

It's Virginia. There are ticks outside. What exactly do you want APS to do about that?

OP, which school are you at? Our 5th graders went for two days but didn't camp overnight. We were told it was a district wide decision to cancel the over night aspect.

It’s up to each school. My current 5th grader went overnight. But there was a bus for the kids who didn’t want to stay overnight to go home & return the next day.

Our son enjoyed it greatly. It's good for them to get out of the house for an overnight. Can back up previous comments that little sleep is had!
