Gallup's recent poll shows the approval rating of Democrats at an all time low(25%). That's down 9 points from the previous all time low of 34% in 2023.
For whatever reason the approval rating of Republicans are on the rise(39%). At a moment like this a 14% deficit for Democrats is remarkable. How can anyone be hopeful about the prospect for change in 2026 and 2028? |
Democrats are highly critical people. They still vote for Dems.
Republicans are less educated and believe more conspiracy theories. They vote for the GOP. Look at 2025 special elections and the unpopularity of the POTUS to be hopeful. But don't get complacent. |
I don’t think those polls matter much. If the economy is tanking in 2026 the voters will take it out on incumbants, who are mostly Republican. If the economy is doing well, voters will reward the incumbents. |
The dip is true blue always vote democratic who are mad at democrats for not doing more against trump. These folks always come out and vote dem and will again in 2026 and 2028. No worries. Now parse the data for fair weather voters and see what you get - those numbers matter. I have no idea what you'll get but I wouldn't pay attention to overall numbers that are just capturing me and my friends and family. I've voted for every democratic nominee since I was 18 and I'm almost 60. |
This. I am very critical of Democrats. But I will never, ever vote for a modern day Republican scumbag. And I'm not stupid or egotistical enough to vote 3rd party. |
What percentage of Republicans are low information voters? What percentage of Democrats are LIVs? The GOP picked up a surprising number of voters in 2024 that Democrats generally take for granted. |
From independents and young people. |
approval ratings are low for dems because they are not taking on the pending authoritarianism |
We may vote Dem again, but we won't be voting for the same, feckless Dems. |
● Friends and family (29%) and news media (26%) are the top sources Americans use for voting information, with younger people (18-24) leaning more on personal networks, and the older population (65+) favoring news media. ● Americans with less formal education tend to rely more on friends and family for election information, while those with higher education and income are more likely to prefer the news media. ● Democrats and Independents are more likely to rely on news media (29%), whereas Republicans more often get information from friends and family (34%). ● Local media serve as the main election information source for 8% of Americans, while national media are preferred by 17%. Three quarters of Americans identify sources other than the news media as their main way of staying informed about the 2024 election. ● Older Americans, as well as those with lower income and education, are most likely to rely primarily on local news for 2024 election information. ● Across US states, the reliance on national news for election information is highest in Connecticut (26%), Massachusetts (26%), and Nevada (25%), while the states where people are most likely to rely on local news are Hawaii (14%), Louisiana (13%), and South Carolina (12%). ● Only 25% of Americans report being very or extremely satisfied with local political news, with satisfaction levels relatively higher among Black respondents (35%), Democrats (38%), and people living in urban areas (33%). ● Americans with higher income and formal education levels are more likely to report being satisfied with local political news. ● DC (48%), New York (42%), North Carolina (33%), Pennsylvania (33%), Michigan (31%), and Illinois (30%) reported highest satisfaction with local news about politics (percent respondents saying they were “very” or “extremely” satisfied). ● Conversely, Montana (50%), Idaho (49%), Wyoming (45%), New Mexico (45%), and New Hampshire (40%) were most dissatisfied with local news (percent respondents saying they were “not too satisfied” or “not at all satisfied”). https://www.chip50.org/reports/2024-us-elections-sources-of-news-and-information |
Don't forget Hispanics and Black males. |
Indeed. But I was thinking of voters whose votes have to be courted each time, and those with no voting history. |
Yes and independents and young people are now in double digit disapproval of Trump. |
"Moderates" are increasingly most of America and Trump approval ratings are tanking among them. These are the folks who decide elections, frankly.
I would say I'm moderate, but Trump pushes me to the left. I am incredibly dissatisfied with the current Democratic party, but also would still vote for them over what MAGA represents. |
