Allen-Stevenson

Looking to apply my son to boys’ schools this fall. Any input on Allen Stevenson? How does it compare to other K-8 schools like St Bernard’s and St David’s?

I have a friend who has a son there, and they love it.

That being said, amongst the families at our preschool, A-S was definitely not as favored as Collegiate, St B, or Buckley. We have girls and preferred co-ed schools, so I have no first hand info, but that was its general reputation at our preschool.

Haven’t looked so take w a grain of salt. But the reputation is that it’s a great school but less “desirable” than Collegiate, St B, St D, and Buckley. I think that means it’s easier to get into.

A/S lets boys be boys. You can decide if thats right for your kid or not. Opposite of prim and proper StB.

I’ll put it to you this way- the Admissions head at A/S- she just sent her K kid to Dalton

wow that is so indicative and how does A/S not fire her for that? Way to not be a cheerleader for the school

How does it compare to Browning?

Wow.

The school announced it's closing at the end of the school year. I assume that's why the admissions head sent their child elsewhere.

OMG. I just saw a Facebook post where a mom was saying her son’s elementary school is closing and they just found out. She must have been referring to A/S. Wtf? The head of admissions was just on parents league virtual fair talking about the school with tons of prospective parents.

Are you sure this is the boys school in NYC?

Announced where? The school has been around for almost 150 years. This would be a huge disruption and as an independent school parent who is pretty tapped in, I haven’t even heard a whisper of this…

I agree and also have not heard anything about this. It would be shocking.

Are you thinking of the Alexander Robertson school that has been around forever? They are closing.

This is my thought too. The private school world would be abuzz if AS was closing.

Pretty sure this is it. I wish the person who posted about Allen-Stevenson was a little more careful. Welcome to 2025.

I once met a kid who went to Alexander Robertson. Nice, normal family. I have no idea how it survived as long as it did - doesn't seem like a sustainable business model.
